What is the Commission on Research Ethics, and what does it do?
The Commission on Research Ethics (CRE) is a group of trusted advisors who make sure that any research involving Leadership Academy data is handled responsibly and with care. Before any research project moves forward, the CRE reviews it to ensure it is well-designed, ethically sound, and genuinely beneficial. Approved projects are then monitored as they unfold. Why does my sharing contributions matter?
Your stories, reflections, and contributions as a Leadership Academy participant are meaningful. Sharing them through teaching, research, and publications, such as conference presentations or journal articles, can benefit you, your congregation, fellow participants, the Synod, and the broader fields of education and ministry.

* Celebration of faithful work and growth within our community
* Better alignment of Synodical initiatives with what you and your congregation need and value
* Greater engagement in learning opportunities
* Increased likelihood of Leadership Academy sustainability and expansion through demonstrated impact
* Informed development of programs and policies grounded in authentic examples
* Greater recognition of the ELCA and the diverse voices within it
* Advances in scholarship and practice related to faith formation, leadership, and discipleship
What if I do not want to share my data?
When you created your Leadership Academy account, you were asked: "Do you give permission for your image and/or contributions to be used in related teaching or research publications, presentations, and events approved by the Southeastern Synod Leadership Academy Commission on Research Ethics?"
If you chose not to share your image or contributions, nothing happens. Your data simply will not be used in this way. You may ask questions, change your answer, or withdraw your consent at any time by emailing leadershipacademy@elca-ses.org. If you withdraw your consent, we will make reasonable efforts to modify the materials, though we cannot guarantee comprehensive changes once the materials have been circulated.
